No, we already live in a 'Nanny state', people should be able to make their own choices regarding these matters

I only wear one to keep my head warm, not for protection

99% of the time I do wear a bash hat, but there is the odd time in the height of summer I do like to ride down to the shop, or along the seafront nice and slow just in sunglasses (clothes as well, not naked)

I know I will probably get grief for this from the more safety concious on here, but its my opinion and as its a public forum I am allowed to have it, even if it does differ from the masses

Disagree and also disagree with mandatory wearing on bikes, yes I would almost certainly continue to wear mine but dont need some faceless expense eating bureaucrat to tell me how to live my life like I'm some sort of 'tard who needs protecting because I'm incapable.

However more provision for quad training and maybe an official badge of proficiency similar to the advanced driving test or cycling proficiency test would be useful and may help with insurance costs.

No-one minds learning new skills or even being tested but I bet most on here are sick of nanny state Britain!

There is a lot to take into acocunt on the helmet debate... I don't personally care if other riders wear one, but I bet they'll expect me to call an ambulance if they bosh their head!

There can be no argument that a helmet will save you from life-changing injury in a high percentage of cases where you impact your head in a fall but more likely a collision. Your head is up high and your brain encased in a hard bone protector by nature for a reason... it's very vulnerable

I don't like being told what to do/wear either but what is the impact on the family and friends of someone who boshes their head and is then dependent on others for the rest of their lives? Then there is the financial cost of treating and caring for an avoidable injury... who's going to pay? Not the rider if they are on life support!

My helmet saved me from really serious injury/death in an accident earlier this year so you won't see me without mine on... I take it off to go to bed though

Playing devil's advocate though, does that lead on to neck braces being made mandatory? Where does it end

Anyway, enough of that... I'm off to the pub at 5.00 for 6 or 7 hours then you'll see me staggering down the middle of the road on the way home so don't run me over ...now, where's me helmet?

I where a lid on quads simply at work due to health and safety of it all, simply as not all 6 year old children make good quad riders.

On the road really it is a just in case - always lots of numpty car drivers on the road, who knows what they are most likely to be doing at the time other than driving! However much i would love to feel the wind in the hair, the last thing i want is for anyone to see what is going on in my head...... (Not a lot really!)

Like Kuryakin said, a course that at least gives people an idea of how to safely ride a quad, and also perhaps points out a few biker tips like life savers, where to sit in the road and hazards that normally not be a problem in a car would be far more benefical and give more people a chance to be seen.
