Quad Bike: bashan
| | Read this before buying a Bashan. hi folks, its been a long time since i have been on here and i feel that i need to post this and relay the last six months with my new bashan bs-200-7.
My obsession started in the early part of the year with dreams of going green laning from the comfort of a good quad. I have been around spanners all my life so when i read reports of all bashans needing a little tinkering i was'nt put off in the slightest. I even read some of the horror stories and thought nah, these people dont know a spanner from a sparrow... how wrong i could be.
I travelled half way accross the country to pick up my bashan and after riding it round the car park for half hour was impressed so i paid the money and strapped it to the trailer.
When i got home i did as told and checked it all through, nuts, bolts, fluids etc and set off to do a lap of the garden.
Bang - chain snapped and it turned out to be the split link, no problem i thought got a new link from local bike shop put it on set off round the garden mildly - Bang link in chain goes again this time the chain gets snarled up in front case smashing the LH chain guard beyond recognition, also snapping the main loom cable going to the gear indicator so basicially turning my digital speedo into a paper weight.re-soldering these connections was useless too.turns out the chain roller was not welded on sqarely and the reason for throwing the link was that under load the chain was rubbing the inside arm of the roller.. hammer and welder fixed the problem. At this point ive done less than 2 miles and allready need a chain link , hammer , welder.
Bike fixed and off to the local woods - both steering stops bent witin five minutes rendering them useless and the quad died after 10min. cause of this was the positive battery terminal snapped off.. quick fix but yet another one.
Next trip out in field behind my house - WTF - main swingarm bolt came off and i nearly lost all the swingarm while riding. again fixed with another trip to local hardware store.
Had one good 10 mile run out in local area but noticed on return the steering was'nt right. turns out all a-arm bushes had evaporated. again fixed with an evening in the shed.. also required the fitting of a brace bar across main frame due to it bending slightly.
Also turns out one of the track rod ends was bent so i replaced this but alas could never get the steering anywhere back near a safe normal point. Also found out the bars are made of proper monkey metal and if you pull too hard on them they will bend like a bannana... enter a new set of bars.
After six months of fixing the quad only for it to break every time i used it i sold it for supprisingly only 250 less than new rrp and bought a road legal enduro bike where in one day i covered more miles and had more smiles than in my entire 6mth bashan ownership.
Please understand i am not here to slate the bashan i just want people to be aware of the problems i have had with mine. This forum was so usefull to me when i first got it i feel it is only fair i post my findings here. If anyone is having problems with theres then feel free to drop me an email and i may be able to help by sharing some of the solutions i found.
I am so glad i sold my bashan and now have something that just works but at the same time i wish everyone who has one a more sucsessfull time than i had.

| | Re: Read this before buying a Bashan. its a shame really, theyre dont seem to be too many good ones about,i enjoy mine but then i only go out on it once every few weeks for an hour, and on road at that,i bent my bars a while back when i rolled it off road and brought some renthal bars and a set of on road wheels and tyres, the only problem ive had since staying on road with it is the float keeps sticking in the carb from gumming up,i think this is because i dont use it too much and the fuel sits in there,i try to remember to run it dry now b4 it gets parked up.next year im gonna sell and get a quadzilla,im more confident on it now and when venturing over 50mph it would be nice if it didnt scare me every time i drove over a crack in the road.haha.i dont regret buying it or spending money on it as it got me into quads which can only be a good thing, and now i know the basics of how they work and go together, just wish i had someone else near me to ride out with... ________________________
